Patriarchy: A Trump Card For Passing All Social Evils

Patriarchy: A Trump Card For Passing All Social Evils

Patriarchy is a social system in which men hold primary power and predominate in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege, and control of the property. It is a system for maintaining class, gender, racial and heterosexual privilege, and the status quo of power- relying on crude forms of oppressions like violence; and subtle ones, like laws; to perpetuate inequality.

THE IMBALANCE

Men are given more privileges in workplaces & women are considered as ‘incompetent’, ’emotional’, etc.

In households, the breadwinner of the house exerts power and expects the spouse and offspring to abide by them.

The younger kids are groomed to submit to Patriarchy. As the child grows, they tend to pick up on the values imparted by their parents and it manifests into multiple problems in any union in the social world. The daughters are supposed to live by the rules, not pursue their careers, not have male friends & are supposed to toil in the kitchen. The younger men would take control of the property & he is not supposed to exceed his father.

Oftentimes, elder women in the households try to suppress other females by making snarky & derogatory comments. If the daughter-in-law is a working woman she will have to do all the household chores & leave for the office. She will be timed & if by chance the deadline is missed she will be shamed for her behavior and her character is questioned.

STANDING UP FOR ONESELF IS A CRIME

If you’re a woman you’re constantly threatened, manipulated, taken for granted, under constant surveillance by your family members, questioned for no apparent reason. It’s gut-wrenching how universal this is.

In any arguments, if you voice out against injustice you are being put down for having an opinion and your loyalty is questioned. They make comments like “Did we raise you for this?”

HAVING AN OPINION MEANS YOUR PARENTS HAVEN’T INSTILLED PROPER VALUES IN YOU

Your opinions are considered worthless. Because apparently, we are childish to not know how the world works.

Even in your social circle, men make these snide marks on women’s appearances and their opinions.

If you’re a well-accomplished woman, the implication is that “you slept your way to the top.”

HOW DOES PATRIARCHY GIVE THE GREEN SIGNAL TO BELITTLE WOMEN?

Patriarchy means male domination towards women. They feel a sense of entitlement to do whatever they want. Even go to the horrible extent of being physically and emotionally abusive. Women are expected to submit to patriarchy or even be coerced into abiding by it.

Here’s a sinful guide for a peaceful life: –

  1. Identify as a feminist, and educate people that feminism simply means equal rights for all genders not “hating men” or fewer rights for men.
  2. Don’t let people talk over you.
  3. When you see injustice happening around you, scream on top of your lungs.
  4. Rigid laws and autonomy to take action against the perpetrators on the spot.
  5. If you come across people passing derogatory comments, SPEAK UP!!!!
  6. Don’t give up on your ambitions just because society said so. You’re so much STRONGER than that.
